I have worked in Retail for many years and have never seen such poor store management ever.
I would like for you to investigate your current store practises. In addtion, an apology is in order. Please respond soon. I am a valued customer and make a special trip from Titusville, FL to shop at your location. In the past I was never bothered or fallowed around the store because I had backpack with me I had done business with this store for over 7 years and spend thousand of dollars there.
I just called Sylmar California Big Lots. I spoke to an employee named Holly. About weeks ago I slipped and fell in the store because there was water on the floor let me add that no caution sign was up nor put up after I fell. Just now I came back from the store and again some other type of liquid was on the floor and I came close to falling yet again, luckily I was able to grab onto something. May I add I am 16 weeks pregnant. I filed a complaint the first incident and I was told I would be called days and have not heard back.
Really annoyed. I am writing to let you know of my experience at one of your stores this past weekend. I was looking to purchase the Windsor Gazebo with netting and sides. I called most of your stores in my area and they were either not in stock or only had the display model left. I ended up dealing with the store in Exton. I asked if they would sell me the display and they said yes.
They could dis-assemble it and have it ready for pick-up. By the time I called back to let them know that is what I wanted to do, they could no longer assemble it to pick up that night, They told me they would not hold it and if I wanted it I would have to come pay for it that night and then come back the next day to pick it up. I was not told anything else but to come the next day and pick it up. That night when I went to the store to purchase the gazebo, I discussed this with Chris and Margo and I have to compliment both of them as they were pleasant and easy to talk to.
I made the journey the next day to drive another hour back to the store and when I went into the store to pick my item up, I received a crumbled heap on a dolly. He was rude and had no other solution to the problem of me being disappointed.
There was no directions included either. How was I going to assemble this heap of a mess that I was given?? I am attaching a picture of how the gazebo was given to me.
It was partially disassembled, the netting and panels were all still attached to the supporting bars and the netting was rolled around the bars in a pile. I had eight panels that were like this. As I sat out front bewildered as to how this product that I purchased was delivered to me with such apparent disregard or care, I was approached by two store employees who proceeded to bait me to retaliate.
Believe me, I was already frustrated. I have to express how these two employees represented your company.
They are always professional, courteous and go out of their way to help anyone in the store. I would urge you to reprimand this kind of behavior so as to not drive customers away. I would also suggest that it be store policy, that if someone is buying a display model that in full disclosure, your sales people clearly state what that means.
I had no idea. If the item that I purchased had been discounted I could have accepted the conditions that I received the item in, knowing in advance that this was what I agreed to. I purchased the display at full price, I was never offered a discount or had it explained to me what buying a display model means. To whom it may concern: I am a part time employee for biglots.
I am also 26 weeks pregnant today. I am high risk pregnancy and due to this I have to have progesterone shots once a week on the same day of the week. I changed my availability when I was 17 weeks cause that is when I started my shots. I was unavailable on wendsday of every week. I just got my schedule and was scheduled wensday. I called my manager only to get a call back saying she gave my only 4 hours away at work that I had because i was scheduled on wensday only for 4 hours.
Is this right even with my doctors note? Your company needs to check your workers work visas… I know of several that are working in your company without the proper work visas…. My son and his wife lost their new born baby last year. They have had a hard year but the Lord has blessed them with another pregnancy. In a meeting today his manager had the nerve to tell him that all he cared about was sex ,because this is her third pregnancy. All they want to do is heal and grow their family and give their 3 year old a sibling.
Feeling discouraged needing some help. Purchased a rocker recliner at our local big lot in Lake Jackson, Tx. At Christmas for a gift. Broke the first week they had it. Luckily I did purchase the warranty. My son tried to take it back to the store with receipt since it had been less than 30 days to exchange.
They would not help. Said he had to contact the warranty number. He played phone Tag and email tag finally after almost a month someone came to their home to fix it. It broke again a month ago. Same thing phone tag, email tag.
Someone was to come again to their home today and no one showed. We should have no hassle with a warranty but it has only made matters worse. Please help! Thanky ou so much for your prompt attention into this matter. Action needs to be taken.. When I was hired the district manager at the time gave me the position we were in understanding that I would have a set schedule.
Due to the fact my wife and I are a low income family and we both work. I loved my job for years and it was always fun. Meaning of the story Biglots is going down hill and if corporate was smart they would start treating their employees like they used too. I would never recommend anybody to work for them or even spend money there. Went to your store to purchase a gizabo.
Why are your prices highet in a black neighborhood? This happend alll the time and people of color are sick of this. You dtive 15 minutes away and it all changed. Walmart, Kmart and other stores follow Unless you want a class acyion lawsuit on your hands i need clarificatoon. What I love the most is they both acknowledge my autistic son! So thank you Big Lots for hiring such wonderful sweet girls! We will keep coming back!!! I wanted to say big lots is a great store but needs management changing a lot.
I was unable to find a number to speak to someone in the main office and the store gave me the wrong number. Not sure who you have running your website but you should really have them make some changes to it. More people are willing to buy more items and spend more if it can be ordered from home let alone they pay the shipping and handling in the first place for it to be delivered to their door step. Not to be rude but its a complete waste of time to have a website for potential customers to go to if they cant order the items they want in the first.
Online sites are for that reason, so that people can shop online from their home instead of fighting crowds and dealing with rude employees and shop in peace.
I hope that this help and I am sure if the changes are made your company would make more sales online then maybe even the stores.
You do have great prices and good products so why not make it even better? I worked for Big Lots as a Furniture Manager and we have to make sure our counts balance. I recently visited the big lots in Murphy NC. Must say this is the worst store I have ever been in. The store manager Angie is so rude and she is very bossy and hateful to the customers and the employees. I was in line when a customer was trying to return an item with no receipt. It is very disturbing to see this as this customer is married.
After hearing our business is not needed I will not shop at this location as long as uneducated and immoral people. I went to a job interview Friday January 15 in St Joseph Missouri your Store Manager was really rude to me when he was interviewing me. There is no cause for this and is appalling. I am sure you will feel similarly to this and look forward to your swift response.
I am a big lots employee. I have been trying to access my mybiglots account but my password is expired and I did not have a hint set up to change it. Where do I go from there? Then it will prompt you to change it. Which brings me to another point. Is it possible to buy anything online at all with this company? I felt I must contact the corporate office regarding a particular Big Lots location I recently visited.
I was amazed at the difference in my experience. This store put the other Big Lots I have visited to shame. This includes the ease of finding items and how neatly the shelved items were displayed. I feel this store deserves recognition for their efforts and should be acknowledged.
I do hope this comment reaches the correct department as it is well deserved. Sincerely, Donna Bouterse, Columbus, Ga. I am employed at big lots I constantly have to beg for hours. I get less hours than people hired 3 months ago and make less. I love everyone I work with and if asked I believe the feeling is mutual. I realize there is no senoirty at big lots but I should get more hours then new hires.
I work as a cashier and do recovery also but so do the others just recently hired who got 19 or more hours and its the holidays. We shop at the Hendersonville, NC store and we wanted to get a table today that is supposed to come with 4 stools. We need 8 so we were going to but 4 extra.
The one and only table that is priced to come with 4 stools only had 2? What is up with that?? Very disappointed. Being a long time shopper at Big Lots I have noticed lately that the prices are now much higher than the regular stores…Giant,Walmart,Target, etc.
Can someone explain why this happened? I thought that Big Lots was a discounted store where you can find good deals…. I am a very disappointed shopper of Big Lots…. I recently purchased 7 fabric jellyrolls and made a rag rug. I showed some pictures of the process and the finished product to a Cashier here in Lumberton, New Jersey.
She suggested that I email the photos to Corparate and let them know that I bought all of my materials there at Big Lots. Thought you might be interested. Judith Moran. As my daughter was fired because she asked to go home as she was sick throwing up. Plus since when does your mangers have the right to tell shoppers they cannot shop in their store when the customer has nothing wrong.
This was the same store. Plus your top mangers at this location are very rude to customers and employees alike. As a professional truck driver if I treated my customers the way your people treat theirs I would starve Please fix this. While in the Big Lots store in Searcy Arkansas today there were signs saying computer accessories buy one get one half off.
When I got to the register it did not ring up one for I told the clerk the sign said select computer merchandise buy one get one half off. The clerk asked another cashier about the sign and they said the they did not know what accessories were on sale and they would not sell me the discounted items. I again showed the sign to the manager and she stated that she did not know which items were on sale and because the sign did not specify.
I told her that I should be able to purchase the items and she said NO and walked away. As a customer of that store or any store you should never be treated without respect.
I walked out of this store without buying anything. Resources Online resources to advance your career and business. Business Marketing, Sales, Product, Finance, and more.

The new CSC, upon acquiring the old CSC, switched the company's fiscal year to the traditional retail fiscal period and divested two of CSC's subsidiaries, AMT and Covairs Auto Parts store, in order to focus the company's operations on one market: the retail and closeout business.
CSC hit the jackpot when they opted to expand their closeout wholesale business into retail. Since that first store opened, in , CSC opened more than additional stores and became the nation's largest closeout chain. In the wake of an excellent fiscal year, CSC targeted as a year to catch its management and management systems up to its explosive growth.
The bottom line was that sales were down, the warehouse was a mess. We didn't have the attributes and professional skills of a company our size. As a result, [we] filled the shelves with a lot of low-end goods To increase CSC's margins, they planned to venture into market unfamiliar to them--the soft goods market--and also, into the import market.
When CSC was named, by Discount Store News , one of the ten most profitable chains in it seemed that the changes and improvements that the company had instituted had indeed improved operations and margins. However, it wouldn't be long before CSC opted out of the retail toy market altogether.
CSC's expansion was not complete with its latest purchase; the company needed more distribution capacity. In , CSC purchased a , square-foot distribution center in Montgomery, Alabama in order to cut distribution costs to its southern stores.
The company also set its sights on improving its furniture business. In , CSC operated furniture departments within its Big Lots general discount stores and had 26 freestanding Big Lots furniture stores. The company planned on opening 50 additional freestanding furniture and additional furniture departments in the coming year. The first sign that long-time closeout store Consolidated Stores Corporation was thinking about drastically altering their business structure appeared when the Board retained the investment banking firm Credit Suisse First Boston to help the company pursue strategic repositioning alternatives.
The company's intent to refocus their business became crystal clear when, on June 27, , Consolidated Stores announced that its Board of Directors had decided to divest its toy operation, Kay-Bee Toys Division--separating the toy division irrevocably from the company's closeout business. An affiliate of Bain Capital, Inc. Potter, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Consolidated Stores said, "This sale is an important step forward in the strategic repositioning of our company.
With the divestiture of Kay-Bee, we are now able to focus on a single closeout business model, which represents our core competency. As the country's largest closeout retailer, we believe we are uniquely positioned to grow our business well into the future. Upon scaling the company's interests down to focus solely on their closeout retail business, Consolidated Stores launched a wide-reaching plan to improve their overall business.
On May 15, , the first step of the process, changing the company's name from Consolidated Stores Corporation to Big Lots, Inc, took place.
